This year has been one of both great challenge and growth. It was my first full year in New York City. I spent the majority of it in Manhattan and the tail end in Brooklyn. I’ve reconnected with some amazing friends from all stages of my past, and met some of the most incredible new people as well. I saw both coasts from Southern Cali to Cape Cod, and spanned about as far north and south as I could without leaving the country. I got to spend almost all the major holidays with my family, which I hadn’t done in years. A lot of amazing work opportunities came my way as well. I assisted on some huge shoots and retouched for one of my industry idols. I’d say overall 2012 was pretty incredible. I hope it was just as surprising and amazing for each of you. I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store. Happy New Year everyone!

Martin made a pit stop in the city on his east coast tour. He played a beautiful show. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge. We took some photos for his website relaunch. He risked his life on my fire escape. More to come. Waiting on some film.

Yesterday I also received a Save The Date from Ayms & John, whose engagement shoot I posted a while back! I love the photo they chose and love that it came as a magnet, because that’s one thing I’m seriously lacking on the fridge. Plenty of stuff to hang up, nothing to hold it there. 2 birds 1 stone!

So excited to be shooting their wedding in gorgeous New Hampshire this coming October!

By the way, how gorgeous are their dogs? I’m a self proclaimed puppy thief. If you don’t want me to try to steal your dog, don’t introduce us :)

Dain & Chris // Save The Date// Jan 2012

I’ve been doing a little design work here and there lately, and this is one project I wanted to share with you. My good friends Dain & Chris got married in December having a small beach side ceremony in San Diego with only family. Although I couldn’t be there to shoot it, they are having their reception this summer and I will definitely be there, camera at the ready, for fun portraits and to capture the party. D&C asked if I would design their ‘save the date’s’ for this summer and this is what we came up with. The photo was taken by the wonderfully talented Renee Chartier the day of the ceremony.

I really loved the way it came out, and especially loved getting it in the mail. There is something special about seeing your work in print, no matter the medium! I have been working hard on learning some aspects of graphic design, and see a lot more projects like this in my future. So stay tuned!

Meet Kait. This lovely lady is a friend of mine from college who is now living in the city. She is a crazy talented girl who splits her time between acting, stand up comedy with The Upright Citizens Brigade, and being a freelance make up artist! Oh, and she is working on her first album. No big deal. There is doubtfully ever a dull moment in her life.

We met up for the first time in about 5 years a couple weeks ago for a late morning pizza and beer at Ray’s. I asked her to show me her favorite spot in the city and she took me for a nice long stroll down St. Marks Place. Kait eludes this sense of outgoing, friendly, approachability that makes everyone want to stop and talk to her. And everyone did. Not to mention, the actor in her came out and she held a lot of conversations on her own as well.

She showed me her favorite hookah bar, where she gets all of her tattoos and how to haggle with the street vendors. She made getting a $5 discount on a pair of sunglasses look like the easiest thing in the world. We then strolled on over to one of her favorite thrift stores where the owner remembered her from her last visit, and she scored those sweet red cowboy boots for a deal too. I am lucky enough to live within walking distance to Central Park, and every time I go it’s brand new. Before I moved to the city I had no idea how massive the park was and while I enjoy exploring new area’s of it, I always end up taking some of the same little streets. What I love though is how different they are each time. I loved it in the fall when the leaves were turning, loved it after it’s rained when all the trees are dark brown, and loved it in October when we had a mini snow fall but bits of green grass were peeking through. I have to say though, Central Park blanketed in snow has to be my favorite version yet.

When the snow stopped coming down today Nola, the lab, and I went for a romp. We spent close to two hours in the park, despite how cold it was, throwing sticks, eating snow balls, people watching and taking pictures. My trusty LLBean boots kept my toes toasty, while she opted for the fur coat. It was most magical at dusk when the lights started to all turn on and the snow and sky took a similar shade of purple.

It is really gorgeous there.

Found some 35mm from a shoot last year that was published with The Ben Trovato Blog. The editorial only used the digital images, but I really love these shots from an expired roll of film I had on me and wanted to share them as well.
